Which Liner Type Do You Need?

Above ground pool liners aren't one-size-fits-all. The type you need depends on your pool's wall height, attachment system, and whether you want a flat bottom or deep end. Here's what each type does and which brands carry them.

Expandable Liners

Expandable liners stretch at the bottom to accommodate a deep-end configuration — giving you more usable swimming depth, not just wading depth. The liner drapes over the top of the pool wall and is secured with coping strips (overlap attachment).

Best For

  • Pools with a deep-end dish-out or hopper bottom
  • Swimmers who want maximum depth
  • Standard overlap attachment (coping strips)

Doughboy offers 20mil (standard) and 25mil (premium) gauge options. Embassy expandable liners are available in overlap format.

Uniform Depth (UD) Liners

UD liners are designed for flat-bottom pool installations. The liner sits at a consistent depth across the entire pool floor — no deep end, no slope. Secured with an overlap attachment (coping strips over the wall).

Best For

  • Flat-bottom pool setups (no deep end)
  • Lap swimming and water exercise
  • Families with young children (even depth throughout)

Available in 20mil gauge. Doughboy patterns include Bayou, Misty Falls, and Solid Blue. Embassy patterns include Pebble Springs and Solid Blue.

EZ-Clip Liners

EZ-Clip liners snap into a receiver channel mounted at the top of the pool wall. No overlap material, no coping strips — the liner sits flush for a clean, finished look.

Best For

  • Pools with EZ-Clip receiver system installed
  • Clean, professional finish with no bunching at the top
  • Easier installation for DIY liner replacement

Doughboy EZ-Clip liners available in 48" and 52"/54" wall heights. Patterns include Evening Star, Terrazzo, Triton, and Grotto.

Dual Bead Liners

EMBASSY ONLY

Dual Bead liners have two attachment beads that snap into either a J-hook or a standard bead receiver track. One liner works with either track type, no modification needed.

Best For

  • Embassy 3000 Series pools
  • Pools with J-hook or bead receiver tracks
  • Maximum installation flexibility (works with either track type)

Available From

Dual Bead is exclusive to Embassy pools. Doughboy pools use Expandable, UD, or EZ-Clip attachment systems instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which liner type fits my pool?
It depends on your pool's attachment system and bottom configuration. Overlap liners (Expandable and UD) work with coping strips. EZ-Clip liners snap into a receiver channel. Dual Bead liners fit J-hook or bead receiver tracks. If you're not sure, bring your pool brand and model to our showroom — we'll match it.
What's the difference between 20mil and 25mil liners?
The mil number is the liner thickness. 20mil is the standard gauge — durable and a good value. 25mil is the premium gauge — thicker material for enhanced durability and a longer lifespan. Both come in the same patterns. Doughboy offers both gauges in their Expandable line.
Can I use a Doughboy liner in an Embassy pool (or vice versa)?
No. Liners are engineered for specific pool systems — the attachment method, wall dimensions, and bottom shape all need to match. Using the wrong liner can cause wrinkles, poor fit, and warranty problems. Always match the liner to your pool brand and model.
How often should I replace my above ground pool liner?
Most above ground pool liners last 5-10 years depending on chemical balance, sun exposure, and how well they're maintained. Signs it's time: fading, brittleness, wrinkles that won't smooth out, or visible thinning. If you're patching leaks more than once a season, it's probably time.
Can I get help replacing my above ground pool liner?
Seasonal World sells replacement liners and can help connect you with experienced local professionals for installation. Many homeowners replace liners themselves — it's a manageable DIY project with the right preparation. Call us at 609-259-8330 or stop by the showroom for help choosing the right liner.
