What size filter do I need for my above ground pool?
Filter size depends on your pool's water volume. Larger pools need higher flow rates and bigger filter surface areas. A combo filter system (filter + pump together) is the simplest choice — they're pre-matched for specific pool sizes. What's the difference between a sand filter and a cartridge filter?
Sand filters backwash to clean — you rinse dirty water out and the sand keeps filtering. They're low maintenance but use more water. Cartridge filters trap debris in a removable cartridge you hose off periodically. Cartridge filters provide finer filtration (10-15 microns vs. 20-40 for sand) and don't waste water, but the cartridges need replacing every 1-2 seasons.
How long should I run my pool pump each day?
Most above ground pools should run the pump 8 to 12 hours per day during swimming season. The goal is to turn over the entire water volume at least once per day. Running the pump during the hottest part of the day helps prevent algae growth. A timer makes this easy to automate.
